Once started, the journey never ends. Each night before sleep, my restlessness takes flight with imaginary wings to places I have been or imagined. Larry Ortega
In each piece a hidden soul enters the darkness bringing in its own light and presence. Sights and sounds of late desert evenings in the studio. Listening to music, thinking, musing, laughing and crying. God is here. 7" x 9" x 28" Wood-Resin-Steel & Light $800.00
“The darker the night, the brighter the stars, The deeper the grief, the closer is God!” Fyodor Dostoyevsky
A new series emerges with a "winged" creature as the focus of the work. The cast resin bird is 36" tall and 9" wide. The photo show it mounted on a 8" x 11" x 9" wood block with cast resin in the cracks of the wood. The shown piece shown weighs around 30 lbs. There are several variations of this piece and how it is mounted on the wood block. Pricing is $600 to $1,200.
A cast resin piece mounted on re-purposed wood with a steel fastener, allowing this piece to hang in multi directions. The wood is also mounted on a piece of rusted corrugated steel and a LED light provides illumination onto the piece. I also am experimenting with different LED light sources to illuminate the piece. 48" x 15" x 9". $1,200.00
With a kiss let us set out for an unknown world. Alfred de Musset
Close up of the wood base used in this series. This piece is Eucalyptus and has cast resin in the live edge of the piece. 11" x 8" x 8"approx. 30 lbs. This is the only piece of Eucalyptus base I have at this time. Most pieces from this series can be matched with the large blocks of wood.
Dreams take me to strange places, at times hovering over the desert wilderness on a mission to find water and in an instant I am miles above the earth and looking at lights of a great city. This out of body experience can have me suspended over water and at times swimming and hovering with the creatures in search of light. A Koi fish, a jellyfish and a stingray are my guides. They create their own light and invade the space of darkness, alerting their presence to the dark depths. On these journeys we encounter ethereal light which I imagine as a portal to other dimensions. I work with cast resin adding phosphorescent layers within the casting process. I use swiveling steel hardware to allow the piece to be positioned by the viewer. I like working with a wood element in my work . All my work has healing soil embedded in the piece. I supply a 21 bulb LED light to "charge" the pieces for night time viewing. Work shown $450
